Krys Pettit -- Watercolor Studies of Architecture and Nature

Krys Pettit is a Watercolor artist based in Florida. Her work covers the range from still life to figurative but her passion is her studies of nature and architectural detail. Coming from a long line of amateur and professional artists has also influenced her to choose her present path of expression. Krys has participated in various workshops from nationally-recognized watercolor artists, but she is primarily self-taught. Her feeling is that experience and life are the best teachers and the only way for her to develop her individual style.

Krys Pettit Artist Statement

Time moves silently, it sneaks up on us or it thrusts a hurricane-force shift in our lives. Moving in and out, light to dark, it brings joy and sorrow, causes seasonal changes, brings serenity, and ushers in cataclysmic change. Time is always revolving and controlling us, making its presence known in the continual interaction of nature and our man-made existence.

Time calls to me in the quiet scenes that go unnoticed - the morning light on a balcony, a darkened window in an abandoned building, the gate hiding a secret path in the shadows, a door waiting to be opened. A fascination with man-made portals fuels much of my work. These man-made entrances and exits keep us secure, They can shut out the world but they cannot keep time from finding its way in and changing our lives.

Using watercolor as my medium, I attempt painting an instance, a moment. I paint memories, symbols of a passage of seconds and minutes that have left me with a strong emotional imprint.

I am connected with watercolor as a medium because of its vibrant transparency and life-like quality when it reacts with paper and water. It is a true relationship that, like any relationship is evolving. I have found that I can't control watercolor and I feel my best work is done when I co-exist with the paint and water, letting it lead me on this journey.

This creative journey is what motivates me to paint, making every day an adventure where fleeting memories and moments in time are captured. Sharing these memories and moments with my viewers and collectors is the reward I gain on this journey.
